A Passover in Rome

A personal biography of Rose Kryger and our history, based on interviews with Rose: A Passover in Rome, complete in open pdf format. It is also available for $18 in nicely bound-book form from Abe Books. You may find this more convenient than reading it on-line.

Synopsis: A Passover in Rome, by Henry Welch and Rose Kryger, presents in vivid detail one Jewish family's autobiographical account of their odyssey in World War II Russia. The often painful flood of memories from Rose at Passover dinner was the origin of this book — starting at the outbreak of the Second World War with Germany's invasion of Poland in 1939, to the family emigration to Israel shortly after 1948.

It is a compelling true-life story of a family's perilous escape from Nazi terror told from two perspectives. Supplemented throughout with notes by Henry Welch, this family history brings into focus the deprivations suffered by a displaced people trapped in Russia: the suffering of starvation, disease, enslavement, and death in Siberia.

This family history is a worthy addition to the list of essential reading in Holocaust literature.
